Melinda Cooke was born and raised in the Chicago area. She attended University of Colorado, Boulder, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts and then a Master of Arts in Experiential Education.
She also met her husband, Paul Cooke, in Boulder, and they both became outdoor educators and have been teaching together ever since. She has taught humanities in Colorado, Indonesia, Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Washington DC.
Her hobbies include painting, ceramics, reading, hiking, biking, and skiing. Melinda has three children – her son and eldest daughter are alumni of Blue Oak School and her youngest daughter is currently attending the middle school. Blue Oak School has been a second home to Melinda and her family for the past eleven years.
