At Blue Oak, the arts are not an “extra”; they are deeply woven into how students learn, think, and grow. Whether through music, movement, visual art, or real-world connections, our students are developing creativity, confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose. Keep reading to learn how the arts at Blue Oak, along with the stories, skills, and real-world experiences that surround them, came to life recently in powerful and inspiring ways.
We were fortunate to welcome two incredible community partners, Music in the Vineyards and Broadway & Vine, each bringing professional artists to work directly with our students. Through Music in the Vineyards, the acclaimed Ivalas Quartet performed for all students in grades TK–8, offering a vibrant program that blended classical chamber music with familiar movie soundtracks and even a few K-Pop favorites. Students were not only engaged as listeners, but inspired by seeing musicianship, collaboration, and creativity in action.
Broadway & Vine brought resident artist Betsy Struxness to campus, where she worked with our 4th and 5th grade students on choreography from the Broadway musical Hamilton. Alongside learning movement and performance techniques, students heard firsthand about her experiences on Broadway, gaining insight into the dedication, storytelling, and artistry behind the stage.
These experiences reflect the heart of a Blue Oak education: learning that is dynamic, connected, and brought to life through meaningful community partnerships.
That same spirit extended into our middle school classrooms, where students engaged with guest speakers who offered real-world perspectives on creativity, perseverance, and large-scale collaboration. One speaker shared a powerful presentation on climbing Mount Everest, inviting students to reflect on what it means to take on challenges that feel bigger than ourselves. Through this lens, students explored resilience, courage, and the understanding that growth happens not when we feel fully ready, but when we choose to try. A powerful takeaway was that no one reaches the summit alone, and that it is through the strength of community, support, and collaboration that we are able to grow, persevere, and reach new heights.
Students also welcomed members of the BottleRock team for a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to produce Napa’s iconic music festival. From stage production and artist selection to sustainability and philanthropy, students gained a deeper appreciation for the creativity, coordination, and teamwork required to bring a large-scale arts event to life. A special thank you to Blue Oak parent Strada Jennaro and her team for sharing their expertise and inspiring our students through this meaningful experience.
The Blue Oak community came together this month for the annual Blue Oak Art Show, where student work transformed our spaces into a vibrant celebration of creativity, growth, and artistic expression. The evening was filled with joy, pride, and a deep sense of connection.
Our 8th graders beautifully captured the essence of the Blue Oak art program in their reflections:
“The Blue Oak art program has been designed to educate us in technique and sustain our artistic creativity. Many art concepts are technique-based, and the process is a key factor in creating art. We have been taught unique ways to wield a pencil, a paintbrush, or papier-mache. These art techniques have given us knowledge we would not have had without the incredible instruction from our Blue Oak art teachers. Along with learning techniques, we have been given the opportunity to expand our creativity. We have been taught to design art with conceptual ideas, as well as the emotions and sentimental aspects of our lives, which we can express through our pieces.”

Together, these experiences reflect who we are as a community, cultivating inquisitive minds, inclusive hearts, and purposeful lives, and helping students grow into confident, capable contributors to an ever-changing world.
