Lower School Application Process
APPLYING TO TK and KINDERGARTEN
The Blue Oak School’s Lower School is a close and supportive community where the imagination and curiosity of our youngest students are nurtured. Out transitional kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms are designed to foster a love of learning in our youngest students through a hands-on and collaborative approach, and strong partnerships between home and school.
Step 1: Schedule a Visit to our school.
SCHEDULE A VISIT
Families are invited to experience Blue Oak by scheduling an individual visit, joining a group tour, or attending an Open House.
Open House events take place outside of regular school hours and provide an in-depth look at our progressive TK–8 program and welcoming community. You’ll hear from our school leadership, meet teachers, connect with current parents, and hear directly from students and alumni.
Group and individual tours are offered during the school day, providing the opportunity to observe classrooms in action and experience our joyful, hands-on learning environment. Tours last approximately 90 minutes and are designed for adults. Reservations are required.

Complete the Blue Oak Application for Admission and return it with a $75 application fee.
If interested in Tuition Index program, please fill out the application, which can also be found on TADS.
Step 3: Request a letter of recommendation
Please request a teacher letter of recommendation from your child’s primary teacher. A recommendation form is included in the application.
Step 4: Individual Assessment
For Lower School applicants, individual assessments occur during your child’s shadow day visit. Assessments are completed collaboratively with the Blue Oak School grade level teacher your child is shadowing with and the Admissions Department. When appropriate our Learning Specialist may also be involved. The admissions assessment process is to provide Blue Oak School with knowledge of each applicants’ academic abilities at the developmental moment they are in.

APPLYING TO GRADES 1 – 5
Blue Oak has limited spaces available in Grades 1 – 5. Families interested in a space in these grades should schedule a personal visit to determine if there will be space available in the grade desired.

Complete the Blue Oak Application for Admission and return it with a $75 application fee.
Step 3: Request a letter of recommendation and a copy of your child’s school records.
Teacher recommendation form is included in the application.
A copy of your child’s school records should also be requested and sent to the admissions office.
Step 4: Attend a Class Visit
Upon receipt of the application, the school will schedule a class visit for the student. Class visits are a full-day visit (8:15 – 3:20) and provide an opportunity for us to conduct a short assessment of the child’s academic strengths while watching them interact in the classroom with their peers.
